Counter Intuitive

I dont know when teenagers first started rebelling against arranged marriages and ushered in the practice of dating...but it's been a while. And yet, in all the years of dating, there's not enough collective wisdom on the subject to prevent some really basic mistakes.

On a first date, the person doing the asking should have a plan. He (or she) should suggest an activity and day and be prepared to pay for the outing. Commonly, the invitation is for a meal.

With so many AWESOME resturant possibilities these days, there are a plethora of dining options, in various price ranges. But it makes a poor suggestion for a first meal that much worse.

So Queenie is trying online dating and has been emailing this guy who asked her to meet him for lunch this weekend. She agreed and asked where he suggested they meet. Before receiving his response, we joked about the possible things he could say. Bruegger's Bagels, McDonald's, Taco Bell...while we love each of those places, they are totally wrong for a first date.

Upon discussing with JazzHands, she agreed and summed it up pretty well by stating that you should not go somewhere on a first date where you order food at a counter. This rules out fast food, low-end delis and Subway, among others.

Ok, so maybe if the place in question also serves booze (like a neighborhood pizza place where you order pizza and beer at the counter and they bring it to your table) then it's ok. But otherwise, DO NOT take a girl to a place with a counter on a first date.

What would people do without tips like that from us. Maybe we'll write a book. In the meantime, the internet will have to do.
