Izzy's Dying

Spoiler Alert: Grey's Anatomy...don't read if you don't want to know.

The internet told me that Katherine Heigl (Dr. Isobel Stephens) and T. R. Knight (Dr. George O'Malley) will no longer be cast members on Grey's Anatomy after this season.

Understandable, really. George has been through all the drama his character can possibly handle (Vegas wedding, divorce, sex with all his roommates, failed intern exam, passed intern exam, family death) and then some. And he's getting overshadowed by the other storylines. Izzy went from spunky and likeable to guano-level crazy, fighting with friends, dating all the other interns and eventually seeing dead people.

So, having O'Malley and Stephens leave the show at this point seems like a good call. When I heard that these characters were leaving, I was nervous about how the writers would do it. But I'm REALLY loving it so far. Izzy's journey through cancer has made her return to the spunky, loveable girl she once was, without the crazy high-drama, dead fiance mess. It's actually been touching and heartstring-tugging to watch her battle cancer thus far.

I'm not sure how George is going to go...maybe Izzy's death is just too much for him to handle and he goes off the deep end. Or maybe he transfers to another hospital to continue his pursuit of trauma surgery. Or maybe he runs off to follow Dr. Hahn and Dr. Burke and the others who have mysteriously disappeared from Seattle Grace. We shall see.

I'm just glad that Grey's Anatomy has gotten away from the over-worked attempts at high drama and has gone back to what it was in the beginning. Although, I continued watching it through all of the weirdness and will continue watching even if they take some drastic turn for the stupid in the next couple of episodes. Sigh. I'm hooked.

You did hear that Katherine Hiegle changed her mind right? I anticipate crazy drama like her dying and coming back to life more than once cuz she can't quite get it together in real life!
